DOVE HUNTING - The Middle Fork Ranch 2008
Each September, I host a few weekends of dove hunting on my field in Archer County. I plant the 40 acre field in different seed plants each year. In the past five years,
I have planted milo, millet, sunflowers, sesame, buckwheat and sorghum alum. What has worked best for the field over time is foxtail millet, sunflowers and sesame. Both plants are fairly easy to grow and they
are also easy to plow strips through.

In August, I plow strips through the seed plants to give the doves a place to land and to expose the dirt.
Doves love open dirt spots to land and they also like to pick out seeds in the dirt. One of the best techniques I would recommend to anyone with a dove field is to plow strips through the field each week, starting August 10.
The doves love fresh plowed ground.

HUNTING FEES & LODGING
I limit the number of hunters on the field to 20 on any one day. The first weekend usually books up by May, so be aware of that if you want to hunt on the prepared dove field with an exclusive party.
The cost of the dove hunting varies.
Opening weekend = $ 150 per person for the weekend
Second weekend  = $ 100 per person for the weekend
Third weekend      =  $   80 per person for the weekend
The Pipeliner Motel is 13 miles from the ranch. There is also a house for rent in Archer City, but you have to secure it by May each year for opening weekend.
The house will sleep 10 men.  Snooze and you lose.

FIELD PREPARATION 2008
I plowed the dove field and planted it on April 15 this year. Seed plants in the field are milo, millet, sesame, buckwheat and sunflowers.

I planted alternating strips in the field and the ground will be strip plowed starting Aug. 10

The brush piles are still in the middle of the field and they make good places for hunters to hide as well as good spots for doves to land in the field.

DOVE HUNTING
ON STOCK TANKS & GRAVEL FLATS

I also have dove hunting on other parts of the ranch that can be very good.  Stock tanks like the one featured here get a lot of dove action in the middle of the mornings and in the hot part of the day. There are several really good stock tanks
and gravel areas to hunt.

The rates are lower for this hunting.
I charge $ 40.00 a day for hunting stock tanks.

NEW RANCH TO DOVE HUNT FOR 2008
I have a new ranch to dove hunt, which is 8 miles South of The Middle Fork Ranch.  You will be hunting on wheat fields,
tree lines, stock tanks, gravel flats and planted grass fields. The ground will be plowed in the wheat fields prior to
the start of dove hunting. There are several really good stock tanks to hunt and lots of gravel flats.
The cost of the hunting is $ 40.00 per day.  I can handle up to 20 hunters on any day.
Look for more information on this dove hunt coming soon.
